It Feels Like Home

I have had many wonderful travel experiences in the last year. From Tanzania to various European countries, but by far the most vibrant and unique has been Bhutan.

Bustling Sunday markets open at dawn and sell everything from produce to stacks in incense. Bhutan is one of the most abundant countries in terms of agriculture viability and crop diversity, everything grows here!

Bhutan is what’s known as a biodiversity hotspot, not just for plants but all life. Hundreds of species live and thrive here or stopover on their migration in each year. The black-necked crane is a huge, majestic animal and they hold much spiritual significance for the Bhutanese people, they are also called birds of heaven. The birds visit once a year from Tibet, they were not here when we visited but one remains in captivity after a serious wing injury made it impossible for him to return to the wild.

His name is Karma, and he is enormous.

For now, I will leave this short post with a picture of the high wetland of Phobjikha, a glacier valley carved millennia ago.

Where are some places you’ve visited where it felt the most like home?
